Pennetta wins Vina del Mar for fifth career title
VINA DEL MAR: Italian top seed Flavia Pennetta won her fifth career title on Sunday when she defeated the Czech Republic’s Klara Zakopalova in the final of the $200,000 claycourt event here.
Pennetta was leading 6-4, 5-4 when the eighth-seeded Zakopalova had to retire with an ankle injury caused when she fell awkwardly. Pennetta added the Chile title to wins in Bangkok in 2007, Bogota and Acapulco in 2005 and Sopot in 2004. “It always feels better to play the last point and have the sensation of winning, but injuries happen,” said the Italian. afp
